Prusa 3D printer Hephestos is an open source 3D printer designed and developed by the bq Department of Innovation and Robotics. Hephestos is based on the Prusa i3 and adds several improvements to other printers like PowerCode. Parts were developed by the RepRap community with modifications and new parts added by bq.
bq is proud to present the latest evolution of the Prusa i3, the most popular 3D printer in the RepRap community. bq's more advanced version, Hephestos, offers significant improvements: a kit that includes all the parts you need, manuals for step-by-step assembly and an active support service via bq's 3D forum to help with any queries you might have. In other words, the best printing at the best price with the easiest setup.
Lead Time: 1 Week. Shipping from Miami, USA.
The key innovation of the Hephestos is its cable-tidy. This enables us to position the cables at the top and rear of the device, ensuring they don´t interfere with the printer movements.
We have also achieved greater protection against burns by eliminating the heated bed and adding a protector to the extruder (the same one we designed for the Witbox). And since there is no heated bed, the energy consumption of the printer barely reaches 60 W.
We have chosen PLA as the printing material, as it can be used in a domestic environment without having to worry about odours (unlike other materials such as ABS). What´s more, PLA is a material that provides the best results in a short space of time.
Open Source and parts designed by bq:
The hardware of the Prusa i3 Hephestos is 100% open source, meaning you can modify it and adapt it however you like. bq is committed to expanding the RepRap community and they are keen to share all of their improvements, without restricting knowledge. All the improvements made to the printer have been made public. All the new parts can be downloaded free of charge.
We have taken the best of each version of this type of printer and have even added value with new parts designed by bq. The goal is to provide sturdiness, usability and ease of use during the product assembly.
Some of the new improvements are:
The complete kit has 7 parts (internal kits). All of these parts are identified and have the necessary components to facilitate the comprehension of the part to assemble and the identification of the components included.
This kit contains everything necessary to update the Prusa i3 Y-axis and obtain a larger print area of 20 x 30 cm and a more solid structure at the front and rear of the Y-axis.
Please note: The printed pieces are not included. To take advantage of the surface area of the long base you will need to update the printer firmware. Download it here.
Filaflex is a filament that enables elastic parts to be created and printed in 3D, without any need to modify your printer.
1.75mm diameter PLA plastic coil. Contains 1kg of filament. 100% Poly-Lactic Acid (PLA).
