Dubai get the world’s largest 3D Printed Map

Dubai is fast transforming into a technologically advanced Smart City, with driverless Metro, the drive-through toll gates, automated smart gate system at airports which allows the UAE nationals to walkthrough the airport; world’s tallest building BurjKhalifa, Manmade Palm Islands and they recently announced Fully 3D Printed office space. They have added another feather to the cap by making the world’s largest 3D Printed replica map of the city of Dubai.

The 3D Map was revealed at the CityScape exhibition 2015 and was made by Ejadah Asset Management. The 3D map which is as big as 3x2-meter was made by a Dubai-based 3D printing Consultancy Company called Generation3d. The map shows fine details of the city and its famous landmarks like the BurjKhalifa and Burj Al Arab.

Generation 3D co-founder Dominic Wright told The National that “We worked with our client for a month, working on concepts of how a model can best represent their assets throughout Dubai while remaining aesthetically pleasing,”

Max Reynard co-founder and technical director of Generation 3D said that they used Google Maps to get the “a computer-aided design model of Dubai,” it took them 3 week to get the model perfected for printing which took 7 days to print on an SLS Color printer. Talking about the short producing time that this 3D Printed model required he said, “Typically, a client would want a model done in six to 12 months to prepare for events or projects. With 3-D printing we can do it in a month and it is much easier for us to incorporate any last-minute changes that are required,”

The 3D map of Dubai is now on display at the Ejadah’s Knowledge Village office, it makes for an attractive display show piece as is also used as tool to make strategic and planning decisions for Ejadah’s assets in Dubai.
