[UPDATE] New version of FT-5 is launched. Please check our new Folgertech FT-5 R2 3D Printer Kit
The Folger Technologies FT-5 is a great kit combining the simplicity of an erector set with the power of a much more expensive desktop printer. The kit comes with everything you need to assemble the machine with the use of a few simple tools and a little bit of time you too can get started 3D printing the world's next big idea.
The highlights of this kits are the massive 300x300x400mm (12x12 x15.75") build area, Linear rails on the X and Y movements. Dual Y and Z motors for added speed and power. This kit also includes an aluminum build surface/headed bed capable of printing many materials including PLA and ABS.

The X/Y linear rail system is far more durable and heavy duty than normal chrome rods. Additionally, rails are much more suited to handle the forces applied in this setup and it will help with future add-ons which are currently in the works, mainly a CNC add-on.
The frame of the FT-5 is made from melamine, an engineered wooden core with a laminated skin on both sides. It’s resistant to warping due to heat, delamination and cracking. It also brings some weight to the table.
Weighing in at about 44lbs this 3D printer is a monster! It is way bigger than any of the other kits they sell at Folger Technologies and is twice the weight of all the 3D printer kits we know of.
Rigidity and weight of the printer itself are important factors that determine if the printer is capable of reaching high speeds.
Thus you will need a little weight to keep your machine in place and not find it vibrating itself off the table and onto the floor.
This kit has far more drive power then any other other kits by a significant degree with the use of six 5.0kg/cm motors. Some users are printing well over 150 mm/sec with good results, for higher speeds we suggest printing the fan duct add-on STL they provide.
** As we receive customer feedback we do make small alterations to the kit if we feel they improve the kits performance and stability, the kit you receive might reflect some of these slight changes and improvements.
Disclaimer:
This is a kit of components for assembly into a 3D Printer by the end user. Building and using the printer is potentially very dangerous as it involves electricity and high temperatures.
Building the printer will require a certain amount of physical dexterity, common sense and a thorough understanding of what you are doing. We have provided fully comprehensive build documentation to enable you to build your Folger Tech 3D Printer Kit in a safe manner.
However ultimately we cannot be responsible for your health and safety whilst building or operating the printer, with that in mind be sure you are confident with what you are doing prior to commencing with building or buying. Read all of the manual to enable you to make an informed decision.
Building and operating involves electricity, so all necessary precautions should be taken and adhered to, the printer runs on 12V supplied by a certified power supply, so you shouldn't ever have to get involved with anything over 12V but bear in mind there can still be high currents involved and even at 12V they shouldn't be taken lightly.
High temperatures are involved with 3D Printing, the Extrusion nozzle of the hot end runs at 230°C, the heated bed runs a 110°C and the molten plastic extruded will initially be at around 200°C, so special care and attention should be made when handling these parts of the printer during operation.
We wouldn't recommend leaving your printer running un attended, or at least until you are confident to do so. We cannot be held responsible for any loss, damage, threat, hurt or other negligent result from either building or using the printer.
